King Khalid International Airport (RUH) offers a wide range of transport options designed to suit every type of traveller, from budget-conscious visitors to those seeking comfort and convenience. Whether you’re heading into Riyadh city centre or continuing your journey across Saudi Arabia, you can choose between public buses, taxis and ride-hailing services, the modern Riyadh Metro, and car rental facilities directly at the airport.

Buses & Shuttles

Airport Shuttle Buses

Inside the airport, free shuttle buses run frequently (every ~10 minutes) to help travellers move between terminals and nearby facilities. This is ideal if you’re connecting flights or need to change terminals with luggage.

Public Buses

There are budget-friendly public bus services linking RUH with central Riyadh, including city terminals and major hubs. Routes may include services like Line 7 that stop at the airport on the way to downtown — don’t forget to check the timetable and platform signs when you arrive.

Buses are the most economical way to reach central Riyadh.

Keep small change ready for tickets and confirm the route number before boarding.

Taxis & Ride-Hailing (VTC)

Official Airport Taxis

Official airport taxis are available 24/7 outside arrivals at Terminals 2, 4, and 5. They use a meter, and journeys to downtown Riyadh usually take 30–40 minutes. Typical fares range from approximately SAR 70–150 (about €25–47), depending on your destination and traffic conditions.

Ride-Hailing Apps (Uber, Careem)

You can order a ride via apps like Uber or Careem. Ride-hailing rates vary with demand, but you’ll get an upfront price in the app and often a choice of vehicle size, which helps if you have lots of luggage or are travelling in a group.

Confirm that the meter is running if using a regular taxi.
Ride-hailing is often a more comfortable and predictable option, especially at night or during peak hours.

Metro / Train

Riyadh Metro – Yellow Line (Line 4)

Riyadh’s modern metro system connects the airport directly with the city. Line 4 (Yellow Line) links the airport terminals with key urban hubs like the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD).

  • Stations at airport terminals: You can board directly from terminals that serve Lines 3, 4 and 5.
  • Approximate fares: Very affordable — often from about SAR 4 for a city-center trip.
  • Typical times: Metro trips to central Riyadh usually take around 30–40 minutes.
Use the Darb or metro app to buy tickets before boarding.Metro is reliable, comfortable, and avoids road traffic delays.

Car Rental

Numerous international car rental companies such as Alamo, Enterprise, Sixt, and others operate counters at the airport (check which terminal they are in — often Terminal 3 or nearby). You can pick up your car soon after arrival and drive yourself.

  • Approximate prices: Rental rates vary by season, but deals around €30–€50 per day have been found when booking in advance.
  • Destinations: Great for exploring Riyadh at your own pace or making day trips to historical areas like Diriyah or the Edge of the World.

How to Get to the Airport

Whether you’re leaving Riyadh or going directly to RUH for departure:

  • Metro: One of the most cost-effective options — take the Yellow Line (Line 4) to the airport station.
  • Taxi / Ride-Hailing: Usually fastest and most direct — plan 30–45 minutes from central Riyadh.
  • Private Transfers: Reserve an airport transfer in advance for guaranteed timing and fixed pricing — ideal for flights with early departure times.

Traveller Tips

  • If you’re on a budget with luggage, try the metro — cheap and avoids traffic.
  • For door-to-door convenience with luggage or late-night flights, ride-hailing or a taxi may be worth the extra cost.
  • Always check where each transport service picks up at your specific terminal, as RUH terminals are spread out.

Transfer between terminals

King Khalid Airport Terminals are inter-connected since they are located within the same terminal complex. Given they are connected to each other by walkways, it is pretty easy to transfer between them.

In order to get to Terminal 5 from any of the other terminals, there is a free shuttle bus between terminals every 10 minutes.
